Informal Handmade Books: A visit with one of the artists

One of our altered books artists talks about her work.

Appreciating art, being able to talk about it, using a variety of materials, and creating art is all part of the Creative Arts Key Learning Area as identified by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

What a cool book!

You make me want to make one, too.

Wow, that is the most beautiful book I have ever seen! This is such a great idea!

This was a fun project! I started a book that day. Debbie, the librarian who presents Informal Handmade Books, suggests first strengthening the pages by gluing 4-5 pages together first. I used regular white glue and put waxed paper underneath and on top and pressed the book, opened it and put a heavy book over top.

I cut out the preceding two pages and decorated.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll post a photo!
